Front-line leaders carry the weight of what happens on shift.

You inherited a process safety program with twenty elements, hundreds of procedures, and a wall of acronyms. Most existing training was built for the process safety specialist. This course was built for the leader running the unit.

Who built this course

Danny C. White, PE, CSP. 42 years in refining and petrochemicals. Senior process safety roles at BP, Chevron, BHP Billiton, and CITGO. Author of Process Safety for Front-Line Leaders.

What sets this course apart

  • Every participant receives a free signed copy of my book “Process Safety for Front-Line Leaders.”

  • Before the course, each participant completes a pre-course survey, followed by a one-hour Teams meeting with the full class.

  • A few weeks after the on-site course, the class reconvenes for a one-hour Teams wrap-up to share what's working back on the unit.

How it works

Contact HSE Engineering. The course is delivered on site at your facility over two consecutive days. Your leaders go back to shift ready to lead.

Investment

$10,000 per day, plus expenses. Up to twelve participants.

Process Safety and Engineering Training Grounded in Real Experience

I design and deliver practical training for every level, from field operators to board members. This includes plant engineers, operations leaders, and process safety professionals who want knowledge they can immediately apply on the job. My classes draw from more than four decades in the refining and chemical industries, combining technical depth with lessons learned directly from the field.

These programs go far beyond regulatory summaries or theoretical models. They connect real incidents, system weaknesses, and management challenges to the everyday decisions that determine whether operations run safely and reliably.

What Makes My Training Different

  • Built on real-world experience. I’ve spent my career solving complex engineering and safety problems in operating facilities, not just consulting on them.

  • Focused on application. The content shows how to apply standards and systems in actual plant conditions—where time, pressure, and production all compete for attention.

  • Tailored to the audience. Each participant completes a brief questionnaire before the class so I can align examples and discussions with their background and learning goals.

  • Interactive and grounded. Sessions combine focused presentations, discussions, and case-based exercises that reinforce practical understanding.

  • Support beyond the class. Every participant receives follow-up resources and my direct contact information for continued questions or guidance.

Training Format

Courses are offered in person or live online, ranging from short executive briefings to full-day technical workshops. Each session includes:

  • A pre-read package with the agenda, background materials, and a U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) case study

  • A practical workbook containing key OSHA guidance and process safety reference documents

  • PDH and CEI credits for professional development

Who Should Attend

These programs are designed for:

  • Plant-level engineers — process, mechanical, chemical, reliability, and maintenance engineers who directly support operations

  • Operations and Maintenance Leaders responsible for implementing and sustaining safe work systems

  • Process Safety, HSE, and Risk Professionals who want to strengthen both technical understanding and field application

  • Engineering Managers and Supervisors overseeing day-to-day process safety execution

  • Senior Executives and Board Members who need a clear, practical understanding of process safety principles, management accountability, and risk oversight

Continuing the Learning

After the session, participants gain access to a private resource area on my site for continued learning and reference materials. I remain available for follow-up questions because the real value often shows up when you start applying the material in your own facility.

Course Offerings

Process Safety Awareness

This 30 minute Computer-based training is for all personnel at the facility who could affect process safety and, as a minimum, have an awareness of process safety elements that are relevant to their job. Without a basic understanding of process safety, facility personnel may not understand how their actions may inadvertently put people or the facility at risk. With this entry level of proficiency, personnel would be expected to understand the hazards of the process and who they could approach for additional information.

Process Safety Basics

This one-day course is for all personnel at the facility who could affect process safety and, as a minimum, have an awareness of process safety elements that are relevant to their job. With the Basic level of proficiency, personnel will learn basic process safety topics and how the management system functions in the workplace. Regulatory requirements are covered at a high level, but the goal of this course is for participants to leave with practical tools and confidence to identify, evaluate, and manage process risks in their daily work.

This course is the pre-requisite for the follow-on one day “Process Safety Practitioner” class.

Process Safety Practitioner

The Practitioner proficiency level builds upon the “Process Safety Basics” class.  The Practitioner level is typically for process safety and HSE staff.  These are personnel who would handle most of the tasks associated with implementing process safety.  These roles should have a thorough working knowledge of the assigned process safety element and enough experience to carry out most of the work needed for compliance.

Process Safety and HSE Risk Management for Senior Leadership

This two-hour course cuts through process safety and HSE complexity to gain a clear understanding for senior leadership.  This course covers regulatory and practical implementation tools to provide senior leadership with a firm understanding of how to manage process safety and HSE risks.
